In 1894, the corporators of our home purchased a property called the Lunt House. The original living room of the Lunt House is still our main living room, but of course it has been updated several times since then, most recently in 2008 when the entire house was renovated.
When Winchester Mount Vernon House was founded in 1894, the Lunt House was home to just four residents. Throughout the twentieth century, additional nearby and abutting properties were purchased to expand upon the Lunt House footprint. Gradually, our capacity has expanded through the renovation of abutting properties and a significant, architecturally corresponding addition. Now, with 17 apartments and fully modernized amenities, we provide our residents with the best available services for assisted living.
From the beginning, community support has been key to the success of this organization, which is dedicated to "furnish aid and comfort and a home for aged people," as declared at our founding in 1894. The Winchester community has supported our mission in every way, from the donations that first furnished the house in 1894 to the community organizations who cherish their time with our residents to this day.
